Eat Salsa With Guacamole

I enjoy a good Mexican cuisine every now and again.  I especially like to eat the fresh salsa and pico de gallo.  You can just taste the freshness in every bite.

Anyway, I was watching a segment online the other day by Dr Oz and it was all about antioxidants.  We all know that we need more antioxidants in our diet to help fight disease-causing free radicals, but what I learned was quite unique.

When I do health lectures about nutrition I emphasize the importance of combining certain foods when we eat in order for our body to utilize them better.  But as I watched the segment on antioxidants, I never knew that combining certain foods can increase the amount of antioxidants that our bodies digest too.

So here is one of the combinations that I learned that can be very beneficial for you.  Tomatoes and peppers contain a lot of antioxidants, and avocadoes are a great source of healthy fats, but did you know combining the two of them will increase the antioxidant potential by up to four times?

So the next time you are out eating at a Mexican restaurant, make sure you eat the salsa and the guacamole in order to maximize the antioxidant potential.  Here’s to helping you eat healthier.
