With the rise of nut allergies, more and more schools are going Nut-Free. This is predominatey in the elementary schools, as the older kids should know what foods they can and can’t eat. Although I believe that nuts are one the healthiest snacks out there, I realize the dangers that some kids are faced with if exposed to any type of nut.
So here is a small list of nut-free snacks that you can pack in child’s lunch box to avoid exposure of nuts to a student with a nut-allergry.
Nut-Free Snacks:
- Fruits (apple, strawberries, avocado, blueberries, cherries, etc…)
- Vegetables (celery, broccoli, carrots, green peppers, etc…)
- Dried or Canned Fruit
- Sweet Potato Chips
- Granola Bars (make sure they are made in a nut-free facility)
- Edamame
- Triscuits
- Oatmeal
- Hard-boiled Eggs
- Olives
- Pumpkin or Sunflower Seeds
- Roasted Seaweed
- Yogurt
- Applesauce
- Raisins
- Banana Chips
This is merely an abbreviated list and there are numerous other options, but hopefully this gives you some food for thought (hahaha, yes, pun intended). You can also consider adding hummus or ranch to your child’s lunch box to help with eating the vegetables. Hope this helps.
