StressI was reading various articles on Yahoo today, and I noticed one that really stuck out to me.  It stated that working in excess of 55 hours per week increases your risk of stroke by up to 33%.  That is a pretty staggering statistic.

There needs to be a balance in life.  You can’t have too much of one thing and not enough of another.  If you put all of your focus into work, you miss the opportunity to have time for family and/or friends.  There is an old adage that says you should work to live, not live to work.  Now, we also have science that supports this claim.

If you are able to control the amount of hours you work, I would highly consider re-evaluating working in excess of 40 hours a week.  There will always be exceptions to the rule, but just remember, if you are stressed to the max and long hours at work is the cause, it is time to reconsider options.  Diet and exercise will always be important to your health, but so will managing your stress and keeping balance in your life.
